Boise Metro Area Guide

Boise is the capital of Idaho and is the most populated city within the state. The city is located along the Boise River and is the largest city between Salt Lake City, Utah and Portland, Oregon. It is just over forty miles east of the Oregon border and over 100 miles north of the Nevada border. This western city is consistently ranked as one of the best places to live and work by several national publications.

There are several options for entertainment in the Boise area. Some of the museums in the city are the Boise Art Museum, the Idaho Historical Museum and the Discovery Center of Idaho. Popular performing arts in the area include the Idaho Shakespeare Festival, the Boise Philharmonic and the Ballet Idaho. On the first Thursday of every month the Downtown Boise Association puts on a gallery stroll allowing citizens to visit an assortment of galleries. Each spring the city hosts the Gene Harris Jazz Festival and each fall downtown hosts the Idaho International Film Festival. If it is shopping you seek then head to The Boise Towne Square Mall which is the largest mall in the region.

Boise has many parks if you prefer the outdoors. There are several hiking and biking trails within the Boise foothills, a few trail networks such as Hull’s Gulch and the Boise River Greenbelt. The Boise River is often used for swimming, rafting and fishing. Zoo Boise is located within Julia Davis Park and features over 200 animals and a unique Africa exhibit.

If you are a sports fan then you can catch a collegiate or professional game in Boise. The Boise Hawks are a minor league baseball team and the Idaho Steelheads play Ice Hockey. Boise State University has several Division I teams including their Football and Basketball teams. They are particularly well known for their blue field at Bronco Stadium.
